The DVD Format Logo Licensing Corporation (DVD FLLC) has not provided a logo structure for DVD authors wishing to inform their customers and their customers' customers about the nature of the discs they produce. It is against the DVD FLLC logo license for DVD authors to include the official DVD-R logo on their products.

In response to this, and with consultation from the DVD FLLC, ArtofDVD.com is providing the following logos under a free license. The requirements are the following:

1) The logo must be used for only the media it is appropriate for. For example, a DVD Video Disc DVD-R logo must be used for a disc that will play as video in a DVD player that has been recorded on DVD-R media.

2) The logo may not be altered except as provided for below.

2a) If a DVD format is created that is not covered by the current logo (Video, Audio, and ROM Discs are included, as are DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW), the logo may be altered to reflect the new format. If the logo is so altered, a copy of the altered logo will be provided free to use by anyone under this license, and/or a copy will be sent to artofdvd.com so long as it is in business.

2b) Users are allowed to change the logo colors as they wish.

3) No licensee may charge for the logo or a derivative of the logo. This includes providing the logo inside a membership section of a web site if there is a charge for said membership. The logo may be included on storage media (CD-ROMs, floppy discs, hard discs, etc) that is for sale so long as it is not the main reason the disc is for sale, and is only provided as a convenience. In that case, this license must be included in a text file accompanying the logos.

4) Anyone is free to include any of the logos for download on their website, provided they link to this web page and this license agreement.

5) This logo may not be used as a part of a company's logo. It may however, be used in conjunction with a company's business promotion, i.e. it may appear free of charge in an advertisment, so long as it is clearly not a part of the company's logo.

6) At this time, this logo is intended solely for recordable media. There seems no need to use it for replicated discs, as all reputable replicators have a license to use the official DVD FLLC logos. Therefore, this logo should not be used on replicated DVDs.

7) Any violation of this license may be subject to a $5000 fine, the proceeds of which would go first to any costs incurred determining the license was broken. Any additional fees would then be donated to charity. Should legal action be necessary, ArtOfDVD.com does not wave the right to seek additional damages to cover legal costs, even if they exceed $5000.

8) In the event there is any dispute over the interpretation of this license, ArtOfDVD.com reserves the right to make a final decision. Also reserves the right to alter this license as needed to protect the spirit of the license. At no time willArtOfDVD.com intentionally change this license in such a way as to cause a formerly free implementation of this logo into one that requires a licensing fee. If, however, in the course of protecting this license, such a situation occurs, said change will only apply to new uses of the logos. No fee will ever be charged for logos that meet or have previously met the licensee requirements.

9) ShouldArtOfDVD.com cease to be in business, the terms of the license still stand, however the fines will be waived in the event of a breach of this license, and users of the logo will be held to it by the honor system.

10) By using this logo or providing it to other users, the licensee agrees to all of the terms of this license.

The spirit of this license is that anyone is free to use the logo, so long as they use it properly. Misuse of the logo would dilute its effectiveness as a potentially recognizable symbol of duplicated media. In practice, it is unlikely that anyone breaking the license would be found out. However, the fine for breaking the license is there in case there are flagrant violators.

So use the logo for free, and give it to your friends in the business
